It’s the weekend … a time to relax, sit back and enjoy.

I love to use Sundays to:

  • bake breads and/or desserts for the week
  • catch up on my reading
  • do a little tweeting, posting, think of ideas for marketing my business

Today will be banana bread (from the looks of the fruit bowl) and perhaps a chocolate zuchini cake (without icing).

Here’s what I’ve got lined up for the next few days. Yep. I usually read a new book every couple days; about 4-5 a week. I love reading …

In the last post, we talked about “Money will get your attention – one way or another” and then chose to change by picking one item from the list.

Here’s a review of the list…

Some items on the list are easier to deal with than others. Start with one of the easy ones.

°         Open the bills; pay something toward each of them

°         Cash any cheques lying about (are you aware there is a timeframe where a cheque becomes ‘null and void’ and the bank will not cash it? Money lost for you!)

°         Use those gift cards – or – gift them to someone who will

°         Utilize less of your overdraft amount; eventually, stop using it (the fees charged are a big money drain)

Which one did you choose?

I promised I’d share which one I chose.

Since I no longer (thankfully!) have an issue with the last one, I was able to eliminate it from my choices. Not having an issue with something always makes me feel good and allows me to recognize how far I have journeyed.  Recognizing our own growth and development is very important. Take a moment RIGHT NOW to be grateful for how far you have come. I can honestly say it is a big relief not to have to deal with always living to the maximum of my overdraft allowed. If you’re still there, don’t panic … it took me literally years to get away from using mine.

For those who are living on their overdraft, here’s a suggestion: promise yourself that you will NOT go to the maximum overdraft this month. Pick any number (that is not the maximum) as your new ‘maximum’ level of overdraft … simply pretend the bank changed the number and stick to it. As an example, if your allowed overdraft is $500; choose not to go more than $450 this month. And, follow through on that. Make conscious choices every time you use the overdraft. Ask yourself: “Is it really necessary to use this, or is there another way I can deal with this situation?” The lesson is in the choice but, more importantly, in the consciousness of that choice.

My choice for today was:

Deposit the uncashed cheques in my wallet – in my case, there were reasons (or, perhaps, they’re excuses depending on how you analyze them): it is an hour to get to town and back so I like to do all my errands at once; one of the cheques was post-dated to June 30; I had 12 guests at my rental and six guests here at home over the past long weekend; and I didn’t feel like running into town both Friday and Monday so I chose to wait until today. Turns out it was worth it as my husband got cheques in the mailbox late on Friday afternoon. Now, I can deposit them all at once, take my dog to her vet appointment and get some groceries – all on the same run.
